Document translations

Hello everyone,

Been prepping our I130 submission for a little bit, I have a question regarding translations:

We will submit the marriage certificate, utility bill and lease agreement.

I want to use a "real" translator (aka this person has an agreement with the local court of justice) for the marriage certificate but I want to translate the lease agreement and electricity bill myself to save us the cost. Is it acceptable as the beneficiary to do it ?

Additional info: we both live in France at this time.

Do I need to submit any documents to prove my fluency in English?

I submitted the I129, but I assume the process is the same. I translated my fiance's birth certificate and police record myself. I then had a notary who watched me sign a piece of paper that said I was proficient in the two languages and that I had translated it. It cost maybe $10 for the notary to do that. He then wrote a letter about his part in the transaction. He really didn't do anything, but with legal things, you always want to take that extra step.

Perfectly fine to translate an electricity bill and a lease yourself. These are not official required documents, they are just secondary evidence of a bona fide marriage (that you live together). You can even translate official documents yourself provided you sign the statement to say that you are fluent in both languages and the translation is accurate.

Another question on that topic: the lease agreement has the names mentioned on the first and last pages what is in between is just rules and law articles, I should be fine not translating that and maybe leaving a little note to explain why it's not translated?
