Need some advice????

Hi--I got an email yesterday that our CR1 papers had been sent to NVC (NOA2). He is from Pakistan, and we are an older couple.

Do you think there is any way that he could be here within the next calendar year? Here is the reason I ask. I could put him on my health insurance this month (only) for about $400 a month, with the coverage starting January, 2017. However, it would be a waste of money until he gets here. The other option is to wait until he gets here. He would have to get Obamacare until I could add him back on the next October, because that is the only time I can add him. From what I am looking at, and with our ages and income, it would cost at least $900 a month to get any kind of decent (but crappy compared to mine) coverage. My state just approved a 67% increase and most of the options were dropped. So it will probably cost lots more than this.

Advice: Would you go ahead and add him or just wait and get Obamacare when he gets here until I can add him on?

Thanks!

PS--I asked about adding him on when he gets here because he will have a green card. The insurance company does NOT consider that a "life changing" event ...go figure...

Yes it is more likely than not that he will be here within the first few months of the year, but this could be delayed up to 6 months post his medical if you wanted him to come later in the year

Also, there is always a chance you will run into problems and take longer than usual at NVC and there is always a chance your case can end up in AP

I cannot advise you on what is best for your situation it depends on your personal situation, I was able to add my husband on to my insurance when he arrived

If you want to avoid the cost for the year go ahead and get everything done through NVC, should take about 2.5 months from now if everything goes reasonably smooth, then you will have a wait of about 6 weeks to interview, he can get his medical done just a week before the interview and delay his arrival in the US until right before the visa expires, with this case then he would enter in the second half of next year and you would not be subject to a penalty

If you want him to arrive ASAP then he could be here as soon as sometime in February/March

Wow, thanks, you gave me hope!!! I have always assumed he wouldn't be here even next year because of all the AP from Pakistan. Maybe we will get lucky and he could be here by next summer...omg, I don't want to get m hopes up because we have been disappointed on so many things. If you think it's even possible he could be here, say by June, I might go ahead and add him on. Thanks again!!
