Did I mess up with SSN application?

Hello everyone!

I have a silly question, in SSN application they ask about "name at birth", do they mean name in birth certificate or the name I was actually born with?

Because I have non-standard situation. I was born with other name (I mean completely different last name, first name and middle name). Of course I filled everything out in my previous applications to embassy and USCIS, attached certificates of name change and birth certificate, and translations to them, but they didn't have question "name at birth", they asked "other names used". I used attachment to fit in all my names (because of their length it didn't fit in the field) and everything went fine with USCIS and embassy.

Now I am doing AOS and got my EAD, went to SSN office today and woman there said to fill out actual name at birth, I said to her that I don't have birth certificate on my old name, only new name (which is also in my russian international passport), because you can't keep 2 birth certificates at once.

My EAD with my marriage last name.

It ended up that woman in SSN office said that "something's wrong with DHS" and said that they will send information to DHS and gave me a paper "we must verify the documents you gave us to show your Alien status with the Federal, State, or local office in the United States that issued the documents".

I am sorry for confusement. I am just not familiar with US government administrations.

I am also wondering what could be wrong in SSN database, maybe because I just recently got my EAD and DHS haven't upload it to the database yet?
