I am an writer living off saving. Have not made any money as a freelancer in the last several years. I work for myself, no company under my name I do work under. I'm guessing I should mark Unemployed but just wanted to makes sure. I have significant assets but have no income so to be safe I am using a joint sponsor, if it matters. Thank you.

It probably hurts your pride but for this purpose I would put unemployed, as no income in the past 3 years.
