Hi Everyone,

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can provide information regarding the below questions:

(1) How long does it take to get my SSN CARD (not just the number, but the card itself) after I've entered the United States?

(2) What is the process for applying for a SSN number/card?

(3) Can I apply for a SSN number if my Green Card hasn't arrived yet?

(4) How long does it take to get my Green Card after I've entered the United States?

Thank you

When you tick the box to receive you SSN,it is not always at the SSN office so you may have to call the Social Security Office near you or go in to have the card done. It takes 5-10 days after you visit the office for the card to be received in the mail. Please ensure that the name on the SSN matches that of your passport BEFORE you leave the Social Security office (meaning first name, middle name and surname is properly stated).

You can apply for a SSN before your green card arrives as the i551 stamp in your passport acts as a temporary green card until the physical one arrives in the mail. The green card arrives at various times which all depends on when it was paid for. USCIS usually tells you that it is produced and sent out to you 120 days after it is paid for but that time varies.
