Question about police certificate

6 posts in this topic

Recommended Posts

My husband is a UK citizen and the police report from there is no problem to get. However, for a period of about 6 years he lived in France. His current UK employer got a police report on him from France in 2014 for this job. Will that one be sufficient or do we need to get a new one?

Thank you all for your advice.

Medical Date: 12/21/2016 Sputum testing required so this sets us back at least a few months.

Interview Date: 01/04/2017  Interview went well.  We are in "administrative Processing" until negative Sputum Test result is received in March.  The consulate will then issue the Immigrant Visa. So there is nothing further for us to do.  We agreed to have the consulate cancel My wife's B1/B2 visa from an older passport and it was stamped "cancelled without prejudice".  We did this now so she would not have to go back to the consulate to have it done later.

POE:  03/29/2017 Charlotte, NC  Processed quickly at airport (about 20 minutes with CBP) and was not even asked any questions.

The police report from France is very easy to obtain. It's called Bulletin numéro 3- https://www.cjn.justice.gouv.fr/cjn/b3/eje20

You fill out the information and give the address to where you want it mailed and they send it (it's free). Start with choosing: Vous êtes né(e) hors de France. You will also need to upload a valid identity document. Within France it takes about 2 weeks to receive, outside of France I would plan for a little longer.

Thank you all for your advice.

I am aware that the poice reports are only valid for one year, however, I saw a snippet that said foreign reports are valid indefinitely providing the person hasn't gone back to reside in that country since time of report. I saw that on the UK embassy checklist.

If your embassy says so, then you may be okay. Try asking someone in the UK forum who has had to get police certificates from other countries. However, as I mentioned, if you have the time until your interview it is quite easy and it is free to obtain one for France just in case (and for peace of mind).

Yes, that's what I've told my husband. Let's go ahead and get it. I'd rather have an overabundance of material than not enough. The last thing I want to get is a checklist asking for it.
