Congratulations.

That is a total of a 9 month process from start to finish then for D.C! Not very encouraging for me as I am only entering my 3rd month since filing, and assuming the same time line as yours would be lucky to get done before the end of the year.

Hi @DGTB

 

That is correct. It seems DC may be a bit slower than some other states. The standard seems like it's 6 months but DC seems a bit more backed up, especially in scheduling oaths. Probably because they do it only once a month and the courtroom may not be that big. States that have multiple dates or multiple venues may be able to accommodate people faster.

 

As I mentioned, I did my interview on Saturday, March 18, and it happens that I fedexed my application on Sunday, September 18, so if I'd gotten same day oath it would have been EXACTLY 6 months for me. I would have my passport at least a month ago by now!

 

But yes, if you're a DC resident, be prepared to wait 9 months. I see you're a March 2017 filer so hopefully you finish the process by December 2017.

Just updated my status. I am officially a US citizen. I have been an active member of this community for the last 8 years. I started with H1 and got my Green card and eventually my wife got hers and now I'm a citizen. This ends my long but totally worth it Visajourney and I wish all of you the best of luck in this process. I've been through trying times and frustrating times sitting and waiting day by day for status updates and uscis letters. I will always appreciate the opportunity and privileges offered to me by this wonderful and great country. Take care my visajourney family and good luck with your lives!

Is there anybody who passed the interview but still no invitation to oath? Today is two months since I passed and no updates since then. I even not sure if there is any reason to waste time and call them because of this 120 days rule. Did anybody try? Actually the question could be different - was there any positive story about calling them?

mine has been 30 days im calling today to see what they say. because my case status still say interview was schedule

I think you should call them. 

 

I did my interview March 18, but was not getting any response so I called them at 1 (800) 375-5283.

 

The first person doesn't know anything, insist on speaking to a level 2 person. Explain that you've waited a long time.

 

It was actually a positive experience, they were very friendly!

Hey Pieguy, congrats on getting your oath notice. I took the Oath on Saturday and finally became a US Citizen.:D:D:jest: :jest:

There is a form on the back of the notice that you are supposed to fill the day of your oath ceremony and it asks about any trips outside the US among other questions and the officers ask the same questions when you check in at the oath ceremony location too. Everybody including my self said no to all questions so not sure what they might say or do when you say you have traveled abroad but i'm guessing it should be okay since people travel all the time.

Make sure  you take any green cards, travel documents, work permit and other cards USCIS has ever issued to you (expired ones too). Some people forgot to bring expired cards and stuff and were told to  bring those first thing Monday morning but were allowed to take the oath. Hope that helps.

Yeah, I wish I had got it done sooner so didn't have to worry about that, but I am sure it will be fine. 

 

Thanks for the tip to bring all expired documents.

 

I will also print out my flight itinerary and any documents related to the purpose of the trip.

 

Finally, congrats on swearing in!
