hi everyone,

on the i-864 form can the page where the sponsor signs their name have a different barcode than

the rest of the application form or does the whole form have to have the same barcode?

does it matter?

The form will be printed and taken to the embassy interview.

If you made changes to one of the pages, re-print the entire form.

i was trying to help my wife (the sponsor) by filling out the i-864 form and just have her sending me the signature page. Also if the joint sponsor makes a mistake, i wanted to fill it out again and just use his signature page.

But i guess that's not possible, as you said all the pages must have the same barcode

another question, what if the i-864 form doesn't have a barcode.

Will it be rejected at the embassy even though it contains all the info of the joint sponsor?

My wife and I are waiting for her to receive her NVC case number. While we were waiting I figured I would fill out the I-864 and send it to her so it's ready. I printed it off the USCIS government website (https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-864.pdf)

It has no barcode. How do you get a barcode on it and is it required? If it is required then why do they offer the form online?

EDIT: I used the EZ because I qualify, but either way the offer a copy of the pdf form online to print off, so I printed one off, filled it out and mailed it to my wife. There is no barcode when you print it off though.

When you open it with Acrobat reader to fill it out electronically, the barcode appears.

I printed it and filled it out in pen, so no barcode appears. It didn't say it had to be filled out electronically, in fact in the instructions it says fill it out in black ink. Is this an issue? It's already in the mail with my signature to my wife.

The barcode is just so USCIS is able to extract your information from your form electronically.

If you just fill it out using regular pen, USCIS will process it manually.

Interesting. Where do you even get the option to fill online? Is that something you get from the NVC? I only see the PDF to be printed. I would guess that electronic filing would be quicker but I don't see any mention of it.

In the instructions to the form here: https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-864instr.pdf it's under "General instructions", 1st paragraph.

If you use Acrobat Reader to open a .pdf file, it will give you an option to fill in the blanks.

So why in your first answer you said all pages have to have the same barcode?

if i'm going to print the form out and take it with me to the embassy, then if the signature page has a different

If you do fill out the form electronically - the barcode has to be the same.

If you fill out the form without barcode manually - there's no barcode => nothing to worry about.

When your case goes to NVC and you get a bill for the payment for processing the I 864 and the DS 260, (and payment is processed), you get the option of filling out the forms online for automatic processing and there will be a barcode

you will have to do these forms for NVC unless they have changed the process since 2015

i hope you kept copy of the I 864 so that when you fill out online, it is the same as the one you sent to your wife

but as NVC needs it, it is not required to take to interview unless they mark on the checklist sheet

i'm way past the NVC stage, i was told to bring an up to date i-864 to the embassy interview
