Finally arrived in the USA yesterday after 136 days from posting the I-130! This website was such a help... one final question though. As part of the DS-230 you select Yes to receiving your Social Security Number... has anyone got experience of how long this takes to come to you? And did you wait before applying for jobs before it came? I seem to remember reading somewhere it comes within a fortnight?

Can take a month. Sometimes it never shows up. Go to you nearest SSA office and get it within half an hour - and start your job search immediately.

Agree. Easier to go to an office than wait weeks hoping it will come.

You can look for jobs now, but will need a SSN before your first day of work.
