Clarification K1 visa/time to get married

Hello,

My fiance and I got our NOA2 two weeks ago and I am busy getting everything together to send to him. As I was reading the guides and checklists and forums, I ran across some confusing information about the K1 visa and was hoping someone could clarify.

The flow chart says that once the K1 is granted, the beneficiary must be in the states within 6 months. However, I also read on USCIS website that we have 90 days to get married once the visa is granted. So what's the deal? Do we have 6 months or 90 days? OR do the 90 start once he's immigrated here via the K1?

Thank you so much for your help!

Jess

It's 6 months after the date of the medical to enter the US. Yes, its 90 days to marry which starts after he has entered the US.

Hi there,

It's 6 months once the visa has been issued. The 90 days then starts after entry into the US-- you have to get married within 90 days.

Good luck :)

He needs to enter before the visa's expiry (which will be 6 months from the medical) and then get married within 90 days of his PoE
