Is the I-864A necessary in my case?

Hello everyone,

As a student, I do not currently make enough to sponsor my husband for AOS on my own.

My father has agreed to be a joint sponsor and has filled out an I-864 along with me. Since he makes plenty alone ($85,000 a year, household size will be 5 I believe) will my mother still need to fill out a I-864A?

He will not list her income, or any joint assets since the $85,000 is enough, so I do not believe she will need to fill one out.

Please correct me if I am wrong!

No, he can be the joint sponsor using his own individual income. Since they file jointly though, he needs to provide an IRS transcript plus his W-2 to show his individual income from the taxes. He will also provide proof of current income too, with letter from employer and/or recent pay stubs. He also needs to include proof of being a USC or LPR.
