Hi everyone,

I would like if someone could help me find out how I can get the amount that my flat is worth in Egypt. I'd like to use it as an asset later on my I-864. I know how much my flat was worth 4 years ago when it was bought, but how can I find out the actual worth presently? I was told by a friend an estimate, but I want something more legit since I will use I intending on using it an asset for the I-864.

Thanks.

Yes, you'd need to pay for a professional appraisal.

That being said, foreign assets often are not counted for the I-864, especially things like property. You may be better off selling the home and using the cash, transfering that to a US bank account,

Thank you for your reply and thank you for your suggestion on selling the flat. As of now, my husband and I have been renting out the property. We were thinking to sell it once we knew he would be approved for his visa.

We're planning on using a joint sponsor, he (the joint sponsor) makes well above the poverty guidelines. I just didn't know if it would be helpful or not adding any assets (with information about foreign assets not being counted, I may reconsider and sell; maybe). With me living outside the US, my dad has offered to be a joint sponsor. I have re-established my domicile, but I just wasn't sure if using the assets I do have would matter if my dad (joint sponsor) makes well above the guidelines. What is your opinion on that? My apologies for so many questions or straying from the original topic.

If your dad makes more than the required amount for his household plus the intending immigrant, it's a done deal. No need to even think about your assets and what they might be worth. I would just keep your dad as joint sponsor and keep it simple. Assets seem to confuse the NVC and embassy staff. Especially when they are overseas.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Thanks for your advice, I truly appreciate it. Would much rather keep it simple. :)
