Social Security Card issue

Has anyone had an issue changing the name on their SSC after they recieved their EAD?

I already have a SSN in my maiden name, but after marrying, my I-94 was close to expiry so they wouldn't send a new card.

I received my EAD yesterday and today went to the Social Security Office with my Passport, EAD, SSC, Marriage Certificate, NOA1 for the AOS and I-94, which she asked for, though it expired in April.

The woman I had seemed to think these documents weren't enough and was apparently struggling to enter the info on the computer and several times told me she thought it would be denied, and that changing my name was the issue. She eventually sent it and gave me the usual paperwork saying I'd applied. But now she has me worried, you know, because the process isn't stressful enough.

Anyone else have any issues doing this? Or did you change your name post EAD and get your card fine? I can't see how there's an issue, I need my SSN to work, and I'm legally allowed to!

Thank you!

You have to allow time for the USCIS to record your new status (EAD) and the SSA to find that info. If your EAD is in your married name, then there should be no issue getting SSN in married name if SSA can see your EAD status. Taking a card is not enough. You have to be in the database.

Sounds like yours may be sent off to USCIS to manually verify since your status was not found, which sometimes takes awhile.

Of course it takes a while, everything in this process seems to.

Thanks for your help! Hopefully it won't be too long.

Well having your married name on your SS card probably isn't critical. Well...except maybe with the DMV. ugh!

Don't go to DMV immediately either. Ours told us the new status had to be found in the database.

If you applied for AOS under your married name, your married name should already be in the system. We only brought our marriage certificate to have my wife's name changed to her married name and we didn't run into any issue.
