co sponser eligibilty and requirements

we got form i 130 approved and email from NVC. my spouse has been in and out of work for a little over one year because of surgery.she gets settlements from insurance from time and awaiting final settlements, so we want to know if she could declare that as income. we were wondering if her cousin from another state, never lived with her could co-sponser if need be and if yes, what does her cousin need to do or submit.

One time income will not be considered.

Her cousin can be a Joint Sponsor. Read the I-864 instructions. The JS will need to submit one.

thanks for the response. so she cant use her insurance settlements as income right? and also how can she prove her relationship to her cousins to the national visa center since it is also one of the requiremets..

One time insurance payments may not be accepted as income for the I-864.

The Joint Sponsor does not need to be related to anyone.

The settlement, if large, may count as an assets, which needs to be 3 times as much as income.

No relationship must be proven, as none is required; the co=sponsor must be a US citizen or greencard holder living in the USA, they need not live close or be related.
