Good morning, everyone!

I am the USC and my husband lives in Mexico. We are filing for IR-1/CR-1 and are currently have two months completed since our NOA1 for our I-130, so we have a really long time to go still.

Last year I worked and lived for a very short while in the US, but the rest of the year I was living with my husband in Mexico, where I did not work. Because of this, my earnings last year were less than $12,000, which does not qualify as 125% above the poverty line.

However, I returned to the US to begin our immigration process and started work in my current role in January of this year, where I make well over the requirements with my salary and have received an additional bonus on top of that (I have the official letter for that, too). By the time our case progresses enough to where this amount will make a difference, I will have been with my current employer for the majority of the year (or perhaps longer, but fingers crossed that our case doesn't proceed that slowly).

What I'm wondering is, has anyone been asked for a joint sponsor if they meet the requirements but have not yet been in the position for over a year? Or can I try on my own?

I have no problem getting a joint sponsor, but I'd rather do it on my own. But I'd rather get a joint sponsor from the beginning if it's just going to cause delays when I try to do it myself.

Your advice is greatly appreciated!

your Noa1 is for May / should take a year by "normal standards" if there is one

chances of it getting to NVC stage by end of the year is probably the best shot and to interview by begininning of next, maybe

if this happens you need 2016 taxes or letter from employer to meet income requirements to do on your own

with tax preparers online, it is possible to do before receiving all the documents normally required for paper returns, so get those taxes done as soon as possible

then as soon as IRS finishes, go get IRS transcrpit from nearest office

this is not a fast process doing CR 1
