I guess I'm just getting bummed out ...

I'm really getting depressed as I see the wait times get longer and longer. My fiance called Montreal last Friday and the woman who answered the phone said that they are still working on getting interviews for people who entered the system in September and October and that we'd be unlikely to hear about an interview date before June. June? Can it really be that long? I keep hoping that those of you sent those packets in December start getting those interview letters -- at least then the January ones can't be that far behind with the holiday closures and all. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking?

I-129F Sent: September 14, 2006

I-129F NOA1: September 19, 2006

I-129F NOA2: December 6, 2006

Packet Three Enters Montreal System: January 17, 2006

Email Attempt One: February 13, 2007 -- No Date; estimated 4 months from Receipt Date

Phone Call One: March 16, 2007 -- No Date: estimated 6 months from Receipt Date

Email Attempt Two: March 27, 2007 -- No Date

Phone Call Two: April 13, 2007: No Date: She said that while no date is scheduled, they're moving toward our date of January 17th and that late May seems likely for an interview.

Phone Call Three: April 17, 2007 -- No Date: Our interview should be within the 6-8 week timeframe.

Letter from Congressional Representative: We have a backlog of up to six months for appointments. It is doubtful we will be able to accommodate him before June.

Phone Call Four: Montreal gives Jon an interview date of May 9th -- that's next week. And supposedly Packet 4 is in the mail.

Packet 4: May 7, 2007

Interview: Approved May 9, 2007

Sorry you are bummed, but 3 to 4 months has been the normal wait time for a while now. The time will fly - use the opportunity to get your paperwork in order for the next step and put stuff in place so that once you do have a successful interview you can leave quickly.

Good luck!

*sigh* I can feel your pain. We started this journey last March and we have yet to get an interview date. Packet 3 was received and the checklist mailed in back in the middle of November. We emailed and have called and we heard back on February 13th that we will hear about an interview in 4-12 weeks. So we have a month to three months for them to play with. Then of course the dang interview won't be for another month or two after that. This has been the most frustrating ####### I have had to deal with in my life! I can't wait for it to be OVER!

for Myheartisincanada..

I sent back my checklist at the end of November and got my letter 3 weeks ago and my appointment is April 4th, in exactly 2 weeks.

I would not give up hope, i doubt you would have to wait another 3 months. I would definitely try to send another e-mail. Sent them 3 e-mails and in the last one I mentionned about my snake ( long story) that i had the exportation papers for her delivered and based on the timeline they gave to me in the packet 3, so that the license i have would expire in not too long, and I think it did help for them to assign me an interview date. I little pushing is never too much.

My fingers are crossed for you!

Sorry to hear that. I'll be hoping for you that it will be much sooner than June. I know how heartbreaking it can be to wait and wait and wonder what's going to happen to you.

Best of luck.

I can certainly relate to the level of frustration you guys are feeling. Even though my husband's interview has finally been scheduled ( 6 months and 1 day from the day Montreal received the file) I'm still yet to recover from the angst and frustration of the wait. Each day that passed made me more disheartened.......then seeing others being scheduled before us made me feel there was a problem we didn't know about.I studied for hours, the timelines of other k visas, compared Montreal to the rest of the world's consulates. The problem was consistent to Montreal......not Canada.......simply Montreal. Talk about infuriating. Combine that with the lack of accountability and acknowledgement by the responders when you call or write........ugh ......you guys know exactly what Im saying. The problem lies with them and the lack of whatever, but they make you feel like youre the one that's wrong for feeling impatient. In relation to another thread..........we tell ourselves its CANADA for frig sake. The timelines show other countries supposedly not our " friends" or neighbors processing visas much quicker, so what are we supposed to feel? I couldnt help but feel we were being punished for doing things according to what we thought was " the right way".

I dunno ..........I dont have any answers or easy solutions for how to cope as I didnt do well. I also dont have any answers or easy solutions for what we can do about it either. It's a helpless child-like feeling when you have no control over your own life to the degree you cant make plans for your own future because someone else holds the reigns. I kept telling myself that I cannot control others but I can control how I feel.......but geeezus Im a human being and not a machine. I dont think it's a crime to want to live your own life on your own terms and to expect others to do their jobs properly. When they say 2-4 months , than god damn it do it in 2- 4 months.

People in the world are suffering far greater atrocities than having to wait longer than expected for a visa interview. Couples are separated by war not knowing if they will ever see each other again......mothers watch their children starve.......children see their mothers murdered.......you get the picture. I know in 5 years none of this will matter, to us anyhow. Just about the time I chose to come to terms with this and accept that in the big picture of life this is really not such a huge deal, of course we received word of an interview. So who knows, maybe there's something to be said for positive energy..........or we just waited 'em out.

I wish you all well and hope you find some peace in this process.

I know so many of us are going through this icky process together. I find myself very hopeful coming here each day and seeing people who've waited so long FINALLY getting interview dates. I'm so happy for you!

And speaking as a US citizen who has watched so many members of my family come here from Ireland and get the visas and green cards rather quickly, I can say that our process (my Canadian fiance's and mine) is far slower and that I just don't understand. We are close neighbors after all!

I did call my congresswoman last week and asked her office if they knew of any reasons for the delays in Montreal. They were really suprised at the slow process. If fact, the gentleman asked if my fiance was from India because of the number of K-1 applications from there and the length of time we were quoted in our last phone call.

Thanks everyone for posting at VJ -- just knowing that I'm not alone in this is soooo huge for me! :)

Hard to say why Mtl is soo slow, maybe they are under staffed. I know when my wife did work for the State Deptarment here in DC, some sections were undermanned, and maybe Mtl just isnt a high priority office, who knows!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
