I-485, gave an incorrect answer

Hey VJ,

I only found out about this place after I filed my forms with my husband. Reading through all the topics has made me realize I answered a question incorrectly on my I-485. The question asked if I was inspected by an immigration officer upon entry and I answered no. I thought the question was asking me if I had been detained and probed for extensive questioning. All I remember of the event was the immigration officer at the airport asking me how I was doing and if I was excited for my vacation.

I am very anxious now to realize that my incorrect answer may lead to a rejection of my I-485. What are my options at this point? Should I attempt an InfoPass appointment to correct that information? Should I just sit tight and wait for a RFIE/RFE? Am I doomed for an outright rejection?

Background if you're curious: I entered as a child with my mother on a visitor visa in 1999. She switched us to a student visa around 2000. After a while my mom filed for an EB3 AOS and my sister and I were filed as derivative child status in 2004. That application was rejected and my mom refiled another EB3 AOS with my sister and me as derivatives again in 2007. We are still pending on that application. I recently filed my own AOS as the main beneficiary as a spouse of USC and you can see my timeline for that AOS application. I already have an EAD that I have been renewing every year based on the previous pending I-485 under my mom.

It says AOS FROM a family based visa, not that the AOS is simply family based. You are not adjusting from a K family based visa.

You could try to contact USCIS immediately and resubmit the application filled correctly (without the fee) and explain with a cover letter attached why you are submitting and the mistake you made.

Or you could wait for your interview and explain it then and give your corrected application. But they may question why you didn't contact them immediately and why wait until the interview
