Hi guys k1 visa here, question after me and my fiance get married,how long will it takes to be able to get a job? Just give some ideas..I know i have to some adjustment status etc.. Just give me idea how many months will it takes for me to wait? Thanks

Once you are married and file for AOS, you should file concurrently for a work permit (EAD). It will take 3-4 months to get the EAD approved.

In the meantime, you could search for jobs and even interview - but you cannot start working without the EAD.

How long it takes to actually get a job depends on your qualifications, the demand in your geographical area and what type of job you are looking for.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

 

K1 process

4/28/16: Interview (approved)

2/8/17: GC received (day 150)

My wife had her EAD 2 months after filing AOS, some take as long a 4 months but haven't heard of any taking longer. Green card runs 4-8 months.

i'm pretty sure you need Social security card also to even get a job. You can file for that directly or wait till you're married so it'll have your new last name.

You don't need it to be hired, but you'll need to present it to HR before you start or on your first day.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

EAD for my wife took about 2 months. GC was around 4 months. We got a SS card prior to marriage and once married and had her EAD returned to SS and updated to married name.
