We had the same interview time and I went there around 6am (I block away too). You'll be standing outside on a line until 7AM anyway, just make sure to bring one bag or just your file folder so that you'll be passing the scanning section faster.

Goodluck to your interview.

It wasn't that bad but if you want to get in line first, I would suggest to go early. I was actually like the 30th something person in line but as I was just carrying one bag and nothing metal-ish on my body I swiftly passed through the scanning lines. I also walked faster than the other applicants (Haha, believe me its effective. You'll walk a few feet going to the main building and you can overtake some slow walkers), inside I was the 10th person in line. I finished much earlier than the ones that was on the line in front of me.

Arriving too early will only cause you to stand and wait longer.

From the embassy website:

** STAGGERED APPOINTMENT SYSTEM EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 01, 2016 **

In our continuing efforts to ensure the highest level of customer service, the Immigrant Visa unit will implement a new appointment system designed to minimize applicant wait time.

Effective February 01, 2016, Immigrant Visa interviews will be scheduled at 6:45 am, 7:30 am, 8:15 am and 9:00 am. Embassy personnel will facilitate entry of immigrant visa applicants 15 minutes prior to their respective interview time slot.

All applicants who arrive earlier than 15 minutes before their interview time will be asked to wait outside the Embassy premises.

At least and hour or an hour and half if you're one block away. So you have time to relax n not rushing in

No reason to arrive that early
