Hey guys,

I'm new to this whole process, but I'm a little confused with what the process is after getting your I-130 approved? My husband is petitioning for me to immigrate to American (IR/CR-1)

I just got the letter yesterday and it says to wait 30 days for them to get in touch with me.

Therefore, is this for them to send me the packet with all the paperwork I need to fill and will they assign me a number for their processing center? I'm being processed in NH.

Hope anyone can help me out on this so I know what to expect

Thanks!

Michelle

welcome

once the I-130 is approved , it goes to the national Visa center (NVC) .

it can take 2-3 weeks for your papers to reach NVC before they can initiate the process

in the mean time you should read this .. and understand each part

once NVC is done you are scheduled for an interview

So once the office in NH receives this application, then they set the interview at the embassy? I'm still in Canada.

NVC will check all your documents , you will need to fill some forms and pay fees , its all in the NVC link .
once that is all done the case is complete and its scheduled for an interview

since you are in Canada , its will be in Montreal ( my wife's interview is scheduled for July 28 at Montreal )

also , Canada is Electronic processing ( EP) so all the documents that you send to the NVC will be through email and its processing is much faster than the normal mail ( 1-2 weeks )

i would suggest you to start preparing all the required docs , get the police clearance cert . and tax transcripts from your sponsor ready for the NVC stage

I have all the tax info filled from him and his parents (just in case), but the police clerance was a little vague for the offices here in Moncton, NB. What kind did your wife get? So I could maybe just get it done with now.

I'm so happy to hear that they're doing EP! Hopefully it'll speed things up a little.

Some people call the NVC for their case number, but is there really a point? As we're just waiting for them to get our application and send our the packet?

She did it from rcmp in Saskatoon. Just go to any police station and ask for a clearance certificate. They would do it in 30 min.

Yes calling NVC is a must. Infact it should be in your speed dial for some time lol. Call them to get things done quickly. I used to call them twice every week.
