No decision after AOS interview, pending almost 90 days.

I am seeking advice for a friend. A few months back I helped my neigbor's son fill out AOS for his new wife. Everything was going fine, she got her EAD and AP. They told me they had a good interview and had a good feeling, but didn't get a decision right there and then. The only thing they said they were asked a lot of questions and have gotten two wrong, but were never separeted. I doubt it was a stokes.

Fast forward few months and still no decision. Their inteview was on March 15, 2016. Next week will be 90 days since the inteview. They have called USCIS several times and keep being told that the case is still pending and to keep waiting.

They have plans to travel internationally in August and a already purchased tickets. Hopefully it will all be over by then. She still has a valid AP, but what if the case is denied while she is abroad? The only red flag I can think of is that she entered on WVP and they got married towards the end of her authorized stay. Then filed AOS few months after that, so she overstayed her ESTA by about 3 months.

What do you guys suggest in this situattion? Please no judgement, just expert opinion would be appreciated. I am especially looking for advice from expert members. There was no intent to stay and adjust. Just to get this out of the way. Just two young kids in love who couldn't stand the thought of being separated.

Thank you.
