Hi all,

I've been googling like crazy trying to find out if joint sponsoring is allowed with Form I-134. I keep getting conflicting answers, some sites say yes, others say it's highly unlikely a joint sponsor will be accepted (and that approval depends soley on the petitioners finances).

Also, if the alien fiance has a lot of savings, can her money also be taken into consideration with this?

A co-sponsor with I134 is perfectly alright. Most embassies don't allow self-sponsoring for the K1 visa (London is an exeption, I don't know about Australia).

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

It's perfectly fine. My wife and I used one because she was in Australia with me at the time of filing, and it was easier to have her father fill one out too. We had no RFEs and my interview lasted all of 2 minutes. It doesn't hurt to assemble a detailed package, I recommend attaching a letter anywhere in the package that situations unique to you may need some clarification. Helping the person on the receiving end of your petition can go a long way.

On a side note, by the time it came to adjust my status in USA (which I'm in the middle of) she was able to sponsor me herself, and we don't seem to have encountered any problems at all.

Definitely allowed in Australia. I'm the USC living with my partner in Aus, went to the interview in Sydney without a sponsor but I have a letter from my employer stating my work will continue when we move overseas, we were approved straight away and interview was easy. I haven't earned a single USD or filed any taxes (because I've only been a citizen for less than a year) and had no problems.

I specifically asked the Consulate if I could self-sponsor and they said no. We are using a co-sponsor instead.
