Police certificate - advice needed

Hello everyone,

I would be grateful if you could comment on the following. I am a beneficiary of CR-1 visa and we are currently collecting the documents for NVC. As you are aware, one of the documents is a police certificate. I don't have any criminal background, so it is not a problem for me to obtain it from my country of origin.

At the same time, it is mentioned that if a beneficiary resided for more than 1 year abroad, then he / she needs to provide police certificate from each country. So I resided in the US for 1 year and 2 months on a student visa.

Does it mean that I need to obtain a police certificate from the US as well? Or do they have any methods of checking your background in such case?

If I in fact do need to obtain a police certificate from the US, then to which US authority I should refer to get it?

Thanks a lot! Any advice much appreciated!

PS: we wrote a letter to NVC but they were helpful as usual and just quoted whatever is stated on their website :(

We got a letter from the local police stating that they searched the database and found no record. That was very simple, and they were happy to do the check. Then we went on line and ordered a FBI check, That took about 2 weeks and cost $25.00. I don't know if it was overkill, but we did not receive a RFE

CR-1 Visa

USCIS

7/27/15 Sent I-130 package to Chicago Lock box

7/29/15 NOA1, TSC

10/7/15 Entered USA for three weeks to close escrow and pack house

12/5/15 Entered USA for 90 days to visit

12/7/15 I-130 approved,NOA2

NVC

12/23/15 NVC received package

1/5/2016 Called NVC

1/7/2016 Called NVC, assigned case # and IIN #

1/7/2016 Assigned choice of agent

1/7/2016 Paid AOS fees

1/21/2016 Paid packet IV fees

2/20/2016 Filed DS-260

3/30/2016 Sent NVC package

4/5/2016 NVC received package

5/5/2016 Email from NVC...case complete with interview date 6/17

6/10/2016 Medical

6/17/2016 Interview - Approved :)

You do not need a police or FBI check pertaining to the USA, they do their own checks.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.
