I have seen conversation concerning the need for a significant sum of money in my gf's bank account as part of proof of ties to her country (Philippines), but no explanation as to what constitutes a "significant sum".

I have heard, though I have not confirmed this, that she and I must have had time together, in person, within a 2 year window prior to filing for a fiancee visa. Is this fact, or just rumor? Our last visit in person was the end of October 2013. I still have the hotel reservation confirmation plus pictures from my visit there.

Nope. There's no direct amount however statements with a sudden deposit may cause alarm rather than be positive.

You need to visit with her again, yes for a k1 time together must be within past 2 years.

Not possible for me to visit her again. Long story and not a pretty one. As for causing alarm... as long as the money is in her account, why should they care? No matter how it got there or what time frame, it will still be in her account and won't be abandoned, thereby necessitating a return to her country.

The average Filipino makes $3500 per year. Saving a decent amount of money with that poor an income would take a lifetime. We don't have a lifetime to wait.

It's not about why they care it's the fact that they do. Bank accounts can be withdrawn out of country. Females from the Philippines have a notoriously difficult time getting a b2.

If you can't visit her start looking for a neutral third country to visit together. By all means try for the b2 but the odds aren't in her favor. What are her other ties to home?

Unfortunately, large sums of money instantly deposited into a bank account matters because they take it into consideration and they are the ones making the decision.

There is no specific amount to be had in a a bank account for an immigrant. He/ she just has to show they can afford the trip.

Yes, it is a requirement to have met in person in the last 2 years before filing a K1.

I agree to try to meet her in another country as back up plan.

You can apply for a tourist visa/b2. Having a large amount in her bank account doesn't guarantee a visa though. It can prove she can purchase a ticket and pay for her stay in her limited amount in the US but then what? Does that mean she will go back to the Philippines? Find other proof of ties other than your plan of depositing money in her account. If there really is no other proof and visiting the US is your only way of seeing each other then just take the leap and try. I'm doing the same with my mom and just winging it. If she doesn't get approved then we'll try again until I can finally petition for her.

You need to see each other in person within 2 years. Since you last saw each other October 2013, that meeting expired on October 2015. Need to meet again in order to apply for a k1. Doesn't matter where.
