i thought we were getting the visa the same day and could come back right away? i've read on this site about waiting for it in the mail. what's that about? is that for something different? some place different than montreal?

my research suggested we were getting it the same day (or next, if long line). and i thought as soon as we had the visa stamp we could enter the US.

You can leave the minute you have the passport back into your hands with the Visa, but Montreal is now mailing them (I think, cuz I'm out of the loop). When we got approved in November they mailed it Canada Post (we paid extra for next day). Got the visa approved on Wednesday, got it in the mail Friday, we left Saturday.

Montreal hasn't been same day visa for a year now, and only recently have they been "bring a priority mail envelope, we'll mail your passport with the visa in it" -- I think the last six months?

The visa itself isn't a stamp, it's a full page sticker. You'll be able to leave for the US once your passport is in your possession.

At 1 time, u got the visa the same day in Mtl, then around the Spring of 2006, it was next day issue, and NOW they mail it out to you in a express post envelope that u provide. For the most part, they appear to be getting them in the mail the next day, so it takes 2 or 3 BUSINESS days to arrive at ur doorstep!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

i wanted to be back by easter, i miss his family's holiday get-togethers :/

i figured our interview will be thursday the 5th, i'd come back friday the 6th, but if they'll MAYBE just SEND it out on friday, i have to wait till AFTER the weekend.

i still havent received my final packet, so i'm sure when i get it my next question will be answered, but i'm so eager to get things done  -- does the envelope have to be canada post? certain size? what if we want to go through overnight UPS, heh. or even UPS canada?

then i could still get it saturday and come back same day?:huh:

They require you to get an Xpresspost Regional (if you live in QC or ON) or National (anywhere else in Canada) pre-paid envelope measuring 314mm x 394mm. I just got it this morning at Shoppers Drug Mart and it costs $10 + $1.50 for signature sticker. thanks! so i'd not get it till after the weekend, then, eh? booo :/ which means my husband has to take more days off.

why do they care so much about the specifics? WE are the ones paying for the envelopes.

is Xpresspost a couple days? do they offer next day/ overnight? or am i just being too hopeful :/ i read on here how someone paid extra to get it overnight. they're not that picky, as long as you have an envelope for them with those measurements?

i tried looking at canada post website, but i cant seem to find any specifics these days, hah

then i've also read how some people got their like a week after.

:(
