I didn't want to hi-jack anyone else's thread to ask this question, but I was wondering what I needed to include under the subcategories on Question 7 on the back of the form.

  • For the inquiry on annual income, I can provide the original copy of my most recent tax return for both federal and the state, if needed.
  • For the question on deposits in savings bank in the U.S. I can document funds in my Savings Account with my credit union, or provide documentation to prove it, if needed. Or maybe that doesn't apply to this particular question?
  • Value of property I'm assuming means the value of a car or other expensive material possessions such as furniture, my mountain bike, electronics, etc.
  • Stocks and bonds with market value. Now, here is where I'm a little stuck and where my main question lies. Do I need include what I have in my 401K retirement account and my traditional IRA, or is this something different?
  • My life insurance I can provide proof of through my job, but how do I find out my cash surrender value?
  • I own no real estate, so this is going to be $0.

If I can figure this stuff out, I can finish the Affidavit of Support and have all the paperwork sent to my fiance before she is called for her interview. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Does your income meet the threshold? If so, you don't even need to fill in the others.

For proof of income, it depends on the embassy (what's your country?), but typically they want: tax return, W2 and a letter from the employer stating your position and salary.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

The official threshold for I134 is 100 % the US poverty level for your household size (so, depends if you have children or she is bringing children?). Those numbers are easy to google. Later, for the AOS, the threshold is 125 % of the poverty level. For that reason, many embassies ask to see 125 % at the K1 interview.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

Go by the 125%, since that is what you will need for AOS, and some consulates want to see the 125% for the K-1 using the I-134 too.

If your income is sufficient, then skip that whole section asking about assets.

Sounds good. If you have a few paystubs, that wouldn't hurt to throw in there either.

When is her interview (please fill in your timeline when you have chance)?

Where do I fill in my timelines? My fiance and I had our petition forward to the U.S. consulate about a month ago. We're currently getting a headstart on the DS-160, and based on one of her friends' timeline, I'm thinking she'll see Packet 3 from the consulate in about 2-3 weeks.

I stand corrected. My fiance received her letter from the U.S. Embassy in Hong Kong today only four weeks after the National Visa Center sent out our petition. Somehow, I thought it would take seven weeks like one of her friends.

By the way, where do I find the date the NVC received the petition, so I can put it in my timeline? I got a letter of May 12th saying they already forwarded it to the Consulate. I'm thinking that date is when the petition left the NVC.

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe it should be in the NVC letter.
