I-485 - Should we sent I-765 ?

Hey guys,

I will be sending my wife's AOS package to Chicago soon, I am not trying to be greedy or anything, but is it worth it to mail an I-765 ? I see that most people are being approved and receiving their green cards before they get an EAD, I just feel like it is a total waste of money if we dont need to file it.

I know that there is no way to predict, but the experts here, if you were to file for AOS right now, local office Orlando, FL, would you personally file an I-765 ?????

Does your wife want to work? If so file for the EAD. Although some people get their green cards quickly, others don't. Some wait years. Unless work isn't an issue, EAD is a good insurance policy against being stuck in unemployment limbo if the AOS process doesn't go smoothly.

We didn't file along with AOS and I regret it, now that we have encountered unforeseen medical costs, and my hubby cannot get Driver's license without GC or EAD. I have now filed for EAD, we will see which one we get first.

CITIZENSHIP: Nov 27, 2012 - May 9, 2013
Note: I immigrated from Canada, not T&T - the timeline is reflective of this.

PRESENT - IR-5 Story (reuniting a family)
I-130 for Parents - 2013
Aug ?? - mailed I-130 packages for both mother and father
Sept 10 - NOA1 date
Sept 16 - NOA1s received

2014

Feb 25 - got emails saying that the cases had been transferred to another office for processing

Feb 26 - got emails saying that the cases have been transferred to my local office for processing

Feb 28 - got emails saying that the cases have been transferred and are being processed

Mar 17 - got email, attached to one case number only, saying that my A number was changed relating to the I-130 filing

Mar 18 - got emails saying that the petitions are approved smile.png

She can file taxes without a social secuirty card. You'll have to check with your state re her dl, most seem to require a ssc.

She can file taxes without a social secuirty card. You'll have to check with your state re her dl, most seem to require a ssc.

She entered the US and worked here for 5 years and paid taxes but was never able to claim/file with the IRS because obviously she couldn't. She doesnt have a SS# and now since we are getting everything fixed, she also wants to fix her taxes and file and pay any back taxes.

As far as the DL goes, Florida doesn't require an SSN, just proof of your legal status. My husband went in with our first NOA on his AOS and EAD with his passport, and they gave it to him, but he was lucky. Most people that work for the DMV want an EAD or SSN.
