Chicago's murder rate soars 72% in 2016

So far this year there has been *one* death by a police officer in Chicago (a man that was holding a family hostage after a home breakin) There have been over 150 non-police killings. so 99.5%. Massive steps have been taken to make the police more accountable, police have been fired and retrained and more and more of them are wearing body cameras. Police shootings are way down.

Shootings by the rest of Chicago's residents are up - way up. When will the community care about the other 99.5% that are being killed by their neighbors?

When the community has to work and make changes to solve a problem its not worth it to them. When somebody else has to make a change it's worth burning down the town.

And yet, for all of that, the shootings in Chicago are up. Tell me something, are the residents supposed to do the police's job? Is it their responsibility to police the streets? I mean, help me out here, are you telling me the folks who live in the war zone should be fighting instead of the police who are PAID to protect the same citizens?

I've known folks personally that have gone to the police to report crime, that go unheard. They do nothing. One person had her house broken into,MULTIPLE TIMES, she knew who it was, went to the police several times and said this person is the criminal, and they still didn't do a damn thing. It wasn't until he was busted in SOMEONE ELSE's precinct and she went down to file a complaint against the department that something was finally done about it.

What you don't realize is, until both sides, the community willing to work with the police, and the police willing to give a damn about the very neighborhood they've sworn to protect, it won't change. But it's crazy to suggest folks who aren't armed to deal with violent criminals.

Shows your ignorance in the matter. Too many people have been hurt/killed by the very folks they reported to the cops, who did nothing to protect them. Of course they keep their mouths shut, especially when you report a crime and the cops don't do squat.

Tell me lib, what "hood" do you live in? Because you always seem to talk about it as if you're living there now...

Look at restrictions on voting that are affecting people being able to vote. Two, yes, you have some people who don't vote. 3 you have people dodging bullets to go to work, don't want to press their luck getting killed going to vote, 4 elect who? More corrupt politicians who don't care? If they wanted this issue solved they would solve it. The problem is they don't care.

People want to make this primarily a police issue because it lets them do what they love to do: Blame someone else.

Police don't make an 18 year old pop out her third kid from the third useless sperm donor. She did that. Police don't make kids fail out of high school at a 50% rate. They did that.

Out in the suburbs we don't have a bad relationship with the police. Or a good one. We don't call the police, like ever, because nothing happens. And that's exactly why people move to the suburbs: inner cities are full of people who will never amount to anything because they were born into a terrible situation because those before them failed to fix it. They will be raised to fail at life and immediately resort to crime.

I noticed a new guy at our customer service department recently who didn't last long. I asked one of the old-timers and apparently he was let go because he kept showing up late (or not) and was found sleeping at his desk. His simple inability to take the job seriously at all means he loses out on what is actually not a bad gig. Most of the people in that department have been around for many years.

Police: Men shot to death by officers in East Baltimore were father and son

A father and son armed with a pistol and a semiautomatic rifle were ready to open fire on other people Thursday before they were killed by two police officers, who fired 56 rounds during the late-afternoon encounter in an East Baltimore neighborhood, police said.

Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said Friday that officers on patrol watched Matthew V. Wood Jr., 43, and his son, Kimani Johnson, 18, pull up on East Lanvale Street near Green Mount Cemetery about 4 p.m., emerging from a vehicle holding weapons.
