Question about J-1 to K-1 Conversion (2 year rule exemption)

Hi Everyone -

Sorry if this is a repeat topic, but I have a significant other who has been working in the US since Jan. 2014 under a J-1 Visa (two year rule for returning to home country does not apply), and we are now interested in pursuing a K-1 Visa. Is the process significantly different from the normal process of applying for a K-1 Visa if the foreign national has a J-1 Visa? Is the process for obtaining a Work Authorization Document difficult. We have been searching for information on how the process might go, but haven't found much useful information. Any advice or information about the process would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply - we have taken a look at the guides but they don't specify if all things would apply for someone who has been in the US for two years, such as the affidavit of support, etc. Should we just assume all things apply regardless?

Only thing that comes to mind is that presumably he has a SSN.

Is the J1 visa holder still in the USA? K1 is for ENTERING the US to get married. So would involve leaving, then returning. If legally present already in the USA, couldn't you get married and then file for AoS?
