Health Insurance for Mother-In-Law Visiting the US on Tourist Visa

Hi everyone,

My mother-in-law is planning to visit my husband and I here in the USA for the first time in May. Right now we are doing research about health insurance that we can purchase for her and she will bringing all the medicine that she needs with her. She is 66 years old and has some pre-existing conditions that may flare up due to the different environment here (asthma, allergies, etc) so we want to make sure she is absolutely covered. Does anyone have experience with health insurance companies and recommendations/complaints regarding specific companies? We have been looking into ***removed*** but we have never purchased health insurance for a visitor before so any feedback or advice would be really appreciated!

Can you not buy Travel Insurance in Egypt?

I don't know if they have travel insurance in Egypt and I don't know how it would work if we need to file a claim.

Let us know what you find out, can not say I recollect having any dealing with Egypt.

In this era of mass transportation I am sure there is a demand. Presumably your family in Egypt can easily sort this out.

Since she will just be a visitor here and not living here, she won't be eligible for most insurances.

There are travel medical insurances and visitor insurances marketed to immigrants. From a federal law standpoint, these insurances are considered substandard and non-compliant for care. In addition there is the issue of if these insurances are actually used and accepted by the doctor or hospital when you should need them. Still, this is the best I can suggest for the situation. There are companies that you can use in America and I'm sure there are companies based in Egypt.

OCare is not relevant for visitors so being compliant is irrelevant.

I don't trust any insurances based in Egypt and neither do medical professionals that I know who work in hospitals there. It is difficult to contact anyone there from here and it will be an uphill struggle to get any claims filed there. It's not a system that I feel we can rely on for my mother-in-law and that's why I was looking for something based here that could be more reliable and easier to contact representatives from the company in case we have to file a claim.
