Hi guys, my fiance and I are getting married in October on the 15th this year and I hadn't realized until now how much of a problem it would be for her to enter the United States as my wife if we got married in Peru. I was thinking it would be a piece of cake right? Wrong.... Anyways, Our wedding is in 6 months and two weeks I am wondering what is the best course of action to take right now? We plan to live and work in the United states after marriage I.E moving there in November or the end of October. Is there enough time to file for the K1 and do it legally? We had plans to use her B2 Visa but after reading everything I am not willing to risk my future wife being barred from the USA for her entire life plus we would be entering with the sole intention of getting married which would be a lie if we said otherwise.

Where can I start the filing process? I am currently living in Peru. Does this propose a problem? I have been here for 8 months now and only visited the States once for 10 days. How long will this process take? Is there something I can do to help make it faster? Thank you all so much in advance for your help!

The guides are your most useful tool to answer your questions.

You can begin the process from Peru. No guarantee on the time frames but most get through on a K1 within 6 months. Nothing to really make the process go any faster.

For starters, immigration of a spouse to the US is a privilege, not a right. Like you, I thought it was the latter when I started this process. Once I understood it as a privilege it helped me get through the process. You'll have many friends and relatives who know nothing of the process who will be incredulous that you cannot simply board an airplane after your nuptials and have her accompany you back to the States. Understanding the process makes it easier to explain to friends and relatives.

The guides that LionessDeon posted are a good start to understanding the process and timelines.

The obvious shortcut on your timeline would be to have an immediate civil ceremony with your wife, file the CR1 paperwork, and then have your traditional wedding ceremony in October. By then, you'll be 6 months closer to having her join you in the States from the normal 1 year waiting period for CR1 visa applications. If you go this route, you can still get married in Peru. If you go the K1 route, you have to get married in the US.

Marriage: 2014-02-23 - Colombia    ROC interview/completed: 2018-08-16 - Albuquerque
CR1 started : 2014-06-06           N400 started: 2018-04-24
CR1 completed/POE : 2015-07-13     N400 interview: 2018-08-16 - Albuquerque
ROC started : 2017-04-14 CSC     Oath ceremony: 2018-09-24 – Santa Fe

If you are currently living in Peru as a USA citizen you can do a direct Consular filling to the Lima Embassy. It is the fastest way to complete the immigration process. I had a co-worker get his green card in 6 weeks with DCF but most don't qualify. I also spoke with the USA Embassy consulate about it. Either you live in the native country or in military personal stationed there. That is absolutely the fastest way.

If you cant do DCF then i recommend k-1 visa.

Of course my wife wanted to get married in Peru with her family so we ended up with doing CR1. If you do the CR1 route she can apply for a B2 tourist visa but that is not a guarantee approval.
