it is crazy that he was convicted. how often does this happen???

Liang had testified that he had drawn his gun when entering a Brooklyn housing project and that he fired after being startled by a noise.

It sounds like the cop was incompetent. Drawing your gun just while being on patrol and shooting at things that scare you without knowing your target is a bad idea. The NYPD should take some blame as I am sure training is to blame. And, guns do not accidentally misfire. He pulled the trigger because his finger was on the trigger.
