Hi all! I'm new here and I need help with my N400 form. I had no idea there was such an active community surrounding the American immigration process so you have no idea how happy I am to be here (and kicking myself for not discovering the forums earlier!)

Anyway, I'm applying for naturalization and I've been married to a USC for three years. I'm working on Part 8 now on Time Outside the United States on the N400 form. It requires me to list down all the places I've left the United States for the last five years but I've only been here for three. I read in another thread to strike out the "5 years" on the form and replace it with a "3"? Is that advisable?

I've taken more than 12 trips overseas since I got here and mentally preparing myself to list them all. Any advice would be very helpful! Thanks much.

Hello,

You do not need to change the year on the form. The immigration officer know what your status is, nothing to worry there. We went through this form not too long ago for my wife. As for the number of trips outside of US, you can always check the dates on your passport to get dates. I know passports are a mess with the stamps all over the place and with the number of trips you have had, it would be difficult. Be prepared to explain your reason for the many trips when asked at the interview if asked.

Good luck

Welcome to the forum!

Am moving this thread, because of its specific nature, from the Introducing Our Members forum to the US Citizenship main forum. Have removed the duplicate inquiry from the pertinent-yet-older thread there. Just a little housekeeping. :)

Hey...I travel a lot too since my family live all over the world. I have quad-citizenship at the moment.

I made an excel spreadsheet and entered in the dates of arrival and departure and used a simple formula to take the sum of all the days I was out of the country.

I had to go into my gmail and collect all the flight itineraries which took the most time and write everything down in a time line fashion.

Good luck!
