I am the petitioner(MALE), and I legally changed my name 30 years ago. On the I-129F where it asks, "other names used" do I have to put my birth name, when in fact my birth certificate and SS card reflects my new name. and I do not have anything in the old name?

I thought that area only pertained to the petitioner(FEMALE).

Why would it only apply to a female petitioner? Many men change their names. Sometimes through the citizenship process, sometimes for cultural reasons, sometimes they just want to...and yes, some men change their names after marriage.

It applies equally to male and female petitioners. Background checks are not gender related.

I also had a name change 20+ years ago. Use your current legal name, but I would suggest sending along a copy of the court docs showing the legal name change. I received an RFE asking for mine and it delayed our case by about a month.

Yes, you have to include it. Omitting information is still not being completely truthful. Since all of your pertinent documents are in your correct name, you shouldn't have issues anyway upon adding the AKA. I believe this is still covered by Part 4 of the I-129F about concealing facts. When they do background checks on you, it would look much better if you provided all information other than them finding out you had a different name and then thinking you might be trying to hide something.
