Hi there,

I plan to file this week! Could you help me out with a couple of things?

1. For all my previous address, is the "+4" part of the zip code necessary?

2. I have traveled for 250 days outside the US (for work and leisure) in the past 5 years 6 months (I have been a GC holder for so long, removed conditions after divorce). Never for more than 6 months at a time. Will it be ok?

3. Do I have to include a copy of my divorce decree? I am remarried (to another US citizen) as well.

4. Is the latest form on the USCIS website good?

5. DId you all file with a lawyer or not? I plan not to, is it wise? Did you include any letter with your filing?

Thanks a lot!

Hi there,

I plan to file this week! Could you help me out with a couple of things?

1. For all my previous address, is the "+4" part of the zip code necessary?

No, but if you want to add the +4, you can use USPS's zipcode lookup directory.

2. I have traveled for 250 days outside the US (for work and leisure) in the past 5 years 6 months (I have been a GC holder for so long, removed conditions after divorce). Never for more than 6 months at a time. Will it be ok?

You'll be fine. There is information around here somewhere, but a quick Google pulls this up:

All LPR’s must also be physically present in the U.S. for at least half of the required residency period (i.e. 1 ½ years for spouse of U.S. citizen and 2 ½ years for all other lawful permanent residents). In order to meet the 3-year/5-year residency requirement, the following rules apply (Note: these rules depend solely on the length of the absence, and issuance of a Re-entry Permit has no bearing on the result):

1. an absence of less than six months does not break the LPR’s continuous residency in the U.S. for naturalization purposes

2. an absence of greater than six months and less than one year creates a presumption that the LPR’s continuous residency was broken unless the alien can give a reasonable explanation of the absence (such as an overseas employment assignment)

3. an absence of over one year automatically breaks the LPR’s continuous residency, unless the LPR has taken steps to preserve residency.

3. Do I have to include a copy of my divorce decree? I am remarried (to another US citizen) as well.

Yes, if you are applying on the basis of marriage to a US citizen for 3 years. This is the document checklist.

4. Is the latest form on the USCIS website good?

Yes.

09/13/13. A new edition of this form is coming soon. In the meantime, customers may file using the 09/13/13 edition. No previous editions accepted.

5. DId you all file with a lawyer or not? I plan not to, is it wise? Did you include any letter with your filing?

I did not file with a lawyer. I have never filed with a lawyer. You only need a lawyer if you think you're going to run into issues like overstaying etc. I had a "cover sheet" that listed all the documents in the packet, but did not write any sort of letter.

Thanks a lot!

Just dropped off my packet this morning!! HERE WE GO!!

Thanks for the reply! I am waiting for my tax transcripts to arrive in the mail - did not know I had to include them.

Also, I am not applying because of 3 years marriage, I am applying because I have been a GC holder for 5+ year (although I received my GC because of marriage).

Okay, so you still need to include your divorce decree :) The checklist says that if you have been married before, you have to include proof that it's ended.

Good luck!

Happy February everyone :)

I'm only submitting 2012-2013 and 2014 still waiting on tax transcripts in the mail.

Most people haven't filed taxes by now, so it's okay not to have 2015. I will probably be bringing my 2015 transcripts to the interview if anything, just to prove I did file last year's taxes.

Good luck to you too!

Hi All,

We will be sending my wife's application on the 8th! I think I'm more excited than her about it. Best of luck to all.

One question, more to further assist my wife, how did you all study the 100 questions?

Currently I'm reading the questions in English and then Spanish to my wife and then we (my daughter and I) are asking her the questions in English for her to answer. We're at 60 questions thus far, but I noticed at times my wife gets mixed up with the questions and well I want to see how others are studying so I can help my wife more.

Oh BTW I found a great resource for a template to add pages for any of the questions. We used it for the trips out of the states.

Hi,

I downloaded the flash cards available at USCIS page... It was a great help. And, since I have a small kid and I have to study at nigh on bed sometimes, I also downloaded an app named "Citizenship 2016"... It is awesome, since it has "flash cards" alike... They hide the answer, and when you want, touch the "card" on your screen and reveal the answer.

She can also download another app to stay up to date on any change on her application... This app is named "case tracker". I use it and I like it a lot.

Good luck to her!

Good luck! I wish I had thought to put the G-1145 in as well, since I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow. Oh well.

Keep the other evidence documents for the interview :) I need to assemble my interview packet.
