Yes it is, but its unlikely to be the direct source of your problem. The blue screen error message would help, but it seems like its not logging the acutal error codes. If you can get acutal error codes you can search for them on support.microsoft.com.

From the event viewer, I linked to support.microsoft.com. That did not help very much, as the suggested causes of the stop error do not seem to apply. I will keep monitoring that for a possible solution.

On another note, does anyone recommend using a registry cleaner? Are there freebies out there? Not just for a scan, but the actual cleanup.

If no freebies, what is the best paid version?

Don't mess with the regestry if you dont know what your doing. You can make a really big mess. If you have someone around you that is good at cleaning up or fixing the regestry you can type at the run command.. 'regedit' that way you can fix the reg.

Also sounds like one of the other programs could be causing a conflict with firefox. Try to load up firefox then one of the ones you had, then watch if for a few days and see if it acts normal or not.. then next one until you have a problem..

you can run Scan disk and defrag also that will help clean up your drive some..

hope that helps

Thanks for the information. Yes, I get the blue screen of death. This is the information from the event viewer:

Details

Product: Windows Operating System

ID: 1003

Source: System Error

Version: 5.2

Symbolic Name: ER_KRNLCRASH_LOG

Message: Error code %1, parameter1 %2, parameter2 %3, parameter3 %4, parameter4 %5.

Explanation

A blue screen (Stop error) was reported. The message contains details about the error. A matching event with Event ID 1001 might also appear in the event log. This matching event displays information about the specific error that occurred.

Wm, google firefox ER_KRNLCRASH_LOG

There's several good hits. The hardforum one suggests a memory stick failure.

Happy fixing :)

A bit off track here (sorry William, hope you don't mind) but a quick question: I installed Firefox a while back, and wanted to delete it (don't ask..I know a lot of you prefer it. :P ) but it won't let me... (in the add/remove programs it only says remove instead of change/remove and then when I click it, it just does nothing...) Any ideas? :) M.

yeah, you're right I 'spose...I just figured since I was on here and the thread was here, ya know.... good idea though..it's not something I think about all the time even..this just reminded me. :) M.

the reason it annoyed me is because it shouldn't be hard to remove..I should be able to go to add/remove programs in the control panel and remove it...argh.

I am leaning to bad memory being the issue here. To know for sure though you will have to run memtest86 for awhile and see if it generates any errors. Your system should crash rarely if ever. Especially with a blue screen of death. It seems like it still crashes on a daily basis without firefox but constantly with firefox. Its possible firefox is more likely to access a bad area of memory than your other applications.

Problem resolved.

I ran the old MS Reg clean program, which apparently resolved something in there.

No crashes for 24 hours of continuous operation.

thanks for the follow-up

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
