From what have read here...yes. Working is only an issue because of income/and taxes, since you'll be earning none, no problem. Karin may do the same to help pass the time, get to know people and learn the language a little better. Oh..and do something good too.. ;)

Sorry...no.. not any thread we're following..but I think if you search for "Volunteer" or "charity" or similar you'll see previous posts that will help. As stated from others..if not earning income and not working in a job that would otherwise be paid, you're good to go. But check it out.

I do remember one link to a volunteer site (below) - may get more information there. It's a site where you can find volunteer work in your area.

VolunteerMatch.ORG

Sandra_S,

For profit or not for profit makes no difference. As John & Annie wrote, it has to be a position for which the organization never pays a salary or provides any kind of remuneration, any and all persons in that position provide their services receivein nothing in return.

while waiting for EAD and Green Card?

Does anybody know?

Thank you...

That's not true.

Working is an issue because of work authorization (actually a lack thereof). Without employment authorization, one may not be employed.

Genunine volunteer positions are not employment.
