One more question. She has 2 children under the age of 18. Should she include them & bring them with her on her k-1 or leave them behind to show she has a reason to return to the Dominican? Have them join her later?

It's up to the both of you if you decide to bring the children at the same time You can send for them later. That's what we are doing, we are bringing the kids later. For a K-1 Visa you don't need to give reason to return to the DR. In her case if she leaves the children there, yes she has a reason to go back. But if she brings them with her that's not a problem.

They tell you at the interview if u r approved and they keep ur passport and will mail it back to u with the visa in it so if they keep ur passport it's a good sign

Usually but sometimes they need to do further AP.

If they keep the passport, that is good.

Usually Kiev lets you know that day....but we've seen a couple needing to wait for a year (very unusual case).
