Hello all,

So basically my Filipina fiancé was in the process of taking her medical examination in late November in anticipation for our mid December interview appointment in Manila

Because of an unusual spot on her chest x-ray, she was required to begin sputum test protocol for tuberculosis. Was correctly recommended by the staff at the clinic to cancel interview appointment at once.

In the meantime, we have renewed fiancé's passport. The question I have, do we have to re- new any or all of the documentation that we have completed up to this point? And also will we need to pay again for the K-1 visa interview fee?

Meanwhile we away with much hope and anticipation that her results will come back clear, and we can proceed with immunization and new K-1 visa interview date.

Thank you to all for any help in this matter

Hi, instead of cancelling the interview just call the embassy and reschedule but then again if the interview was mid december - let's assume that the date has already passed.... you have to pay for the visa interview again. I think.

Without answering your question directly, I provided a link that leads to several forums within VJ discussing Sputum Test / K1. At least one should shed some light on the matter.

Two items to be aware of. If you cancel more the two times you will need to pay your interview fee again and wait 90 days. Second, the CENOMAR and NBI cannot be older than six months at time of interview. Otherwise your other documents are fine. You also need your passport to have at least six months remaining when you leave Phil. You just renewed her passport so no worries there.

I thought this too that you have to pay again after two cancellations but I was wrong. I had to cancel 4 times and paid nothing. I called US Embassy and i was told this is not applicable for K-1 visa applicants so basically you can reschedule as often as you want.

You are right on CENOMAR and NBI

1) I do not recommend following the suggestion to "call the embassy and reschedule", bad suggestion for sure. Cancel the current interview date (as stated by SLEC), the SPUTUM is a 2 month process, wait to hear the results of the SPUTUM before scheduling the interview date again (as noted by Greenbaum, there is a penalty if you cancel too many times).

2) You do not have to renew ALL the documents, but you will need to have the DS-160 updated by the CO during the interview, OR complete a new DS-160 and bring the new confirmation page to the interview. You need to bring BOTH the old and new passports to the interview.

3) No you do not need to pay the visa fee again. You have your receipt, (make copies), that you will bring to the interview. Visa fee is good for one year.

Personally, I think you got lucky. (it appears the embassy removed the 2nd visa fee payment requirement but the 90 day wait penalty still is there)

http://manila.usembassy.gov/niv-application.html

"Please plan your visa application accordingly to avoid problems securing an interview appointment. Even though nonimmigrant visa fees are valid for one calendar year, options to schedule an appointment are limited. Applicants are only allowed to reschedule twice (not including the initial appointment) without penalty. If the second rescheduling attempt is canceled, an applicant will only be allowed to reschedule a new date after a waiting period of 90 calendar days."

- I kept on postponing my interview date because I had a commitment with my previous employer that I'll leave 2nd week of Sept so I didn't want to have my interview too soon as the validity of the visa is only 6 months and starts from the day you had your medical exam. I was worried that by Sept my visa is already expired so I had to do it late June. There are othe circumstances why I kept on changing my interview date. My initial interview date was scheduled first week of April, then I re-scheduled to 2nd week of May. I then noticed in the US embassy website after my 2nd cancellation that I have to pay after the 2nd one if I have to reschedule again so I called the embassy and verified. I was specifically told that I'm ok to reschedule as many times I want since K-1 applicants are not included on this policy. I was advised to keep my receipt for the visa fee that I paid as it is valid for a year. Made another interview schedule end of May then the last and final one which was June 29th. After 4 cancellations, I paid nothing. For me, I would suggest the OP to call the embassy and verify. They are very accommodating and helpful. There's no harm in trying anyway ? Edited by dpd
