I-130 sent to CA, I-129F sent to Vermont?

I sent our I-130 to Nebraska, the way I should given that I now live in Colorado, and they sent it on to California, as I expected. I got our receipt number from looking at an image of my cancelled check on the internet. It was hard to read, but turned out to be right.

After I got our I-797, I sent our I-129F to the Chicago lock box. Today I see my cancelled check at my bank's internet site, and as before, the receipt number is hard to read. After a false hit, I found a MSC receipt number that corresponds to an I-129F at the USCIS website. But they sent this petition on to Vermont. In a few days, I'll know for sure whether our two petitions really are in different service centers.

Anyone else experience this? Would this indicate that, in our case, we might get to run an old-fashioned K3/CR-1 race since the petitions are separated?
