Nope, just asking for clarification.

It's a known fact that many immigrants come here and thrive with little to no issues. That's because they're not dealing with the same stigmas we've had placed on us.

Black west indies and black Africans come and do fine. Maybe it's something else.

Because once again, there's a difference between being African and being black. Africans don't even want to be classified as being black.

But I thought all the hate was because of the color of your skin. But I guess that does not apply to blacks from Africa or the West Indies. Hmmm

Not being rude, but which ethnic group in America has endured slavery and made a full recovery?

Because I can only think of two. Native Americans and Black people.

Note that I said similar hardships which will of course start a debate about whether the hardships below are truly equal to slavery I'm sure, but I believe the two I mentioned as a generation are equal.

The first is Japanese Americans post 1941. They were placed in concentration camps, they had their property confiscated and they started at zero starting in 1945 whilst facing lingering racism related to war demonizing. They recovered very quickly.

The second is the Jewish population that survived genocide and then came to the US only to face antisemitism. They also recovered very quickly.

imo they're no where near comparison, also imo, such comparisons are pointless. instead of confronting the racial issues black people face in this country, we are forever arguing if black people actually experience racial issues. how can we get to solutions if we can't agree there is a problem?

Ding, ding, ding...acknowledge a problem exists, stop making excuses, deal with the problem.

If we waste our time looking at everything pre 1964 we won't ever find a solution. We need to focus on 1965 until now.

i'm saying, it's ridiculous to go back and forth over if slavery/jim crow has had a long term impact on black americans. duh, of course it has. what can we do to lessen and reverse the impact?

If we waste our time looking at everything pre 1964 we won't ever find a solution. We need to focus on 1965 until now.

and we can look at what's happened to 'the black family' in america, since 1964 and the majority of their issues (incarceration, poverty, joblessness) are the exact same problems that have plagued the working class (speaking of all races) - it's just that in america black families had already taken expansive knocks on account of slavery/jim crow.
