Applying For ROC - But not for long?

Hey guys,

I haven't posted here in a while but I was extremely active during my AOS application.

Alright, so basically this is what is going on, and I was just curious if anyone has also been in this situation...

So, my ROC will be happening around May of 2016, however, my wife and I have decided that we are very unhappy living here in the US, and will be pursuing Canadian immigration and permanent residency for her. We would have done this originally, however I had to be working down here for us to be able to afford it, we didn't want to be separated, and there was a period of time where she wasn't eligible to apply, but now she will be.

We are aware of the work and effort with put into getting my Green Card, but I'm not kidding when we say we are miserable living here and we have gone through hell trying to figure out every possible option, and this is the one where we'll end up being the most happy.

Anyway, because my wife cannot send out her PR application to Canada until August 2, 2016 (long story, has to do with dates of a DUI that happened 5+ years ago) obviously that date is going to be after when my ROC is due, so I don't have a choice but to go through with my ROC since I will still need to work and stay here for several months while the Canadian application is being processed. Money is not an issue, fortunately. I realize this is daunting, to basically be doing 2 separate applications at the same time, but I am fully prepared and confident that I can achieve everything without issue.

So, with that being said, after I complete my ROC, and we send off the Canadian PR application, and once it is approved, how will I go about cancelling my new 10 year GC since we will be relocating to Canada upon approval? Do I need to let them know very far in advance or once we get to Canada, or right before we leave to Canada? I'm assuming my wife would just have to withdraw her sponsorship for me?

Weird situation, I know. Any help appreciated!

After you have immigrated back to Canada, you can submit an I-407, abandoning your lawful permanent resident status.

Absolutely.

Of course! Abandoning your permanent residency will have no affect on your ability to obtain a visa for short visits to the US and in your case, crossing the border with your Canadian passport.

In fact, voluntarily giving up your green card is good for showing a strong tie to Canada.

Have you thought about other areas to live? AL is going to be tough because of the political climate there, but there are other places in the US that are more welcoming. Then her entry into Canada isn't an issue.
