Hello all,

Is it okay to add more documents other than what the RFE asks for?

I was ask to provide a letter of intent to marry coming from me (beneficiary) and I wanted to add more documents:

• Chat conversations and Call logs - we didn't include it in sending the I-129F package, only proof of meeting in person, like tickets, boarding pass, pictures of us together and my family and the engagement.
• My updated G-325a - mother has a different name on her birth certificate and had a mistake of following it instead of copying what was on my birth record.
• Updated fiancé's letter of intent to marry - there were dates on the letter that is inconsistent with the actual facts (i.e. his actual arrival in Philippines).

I don't see wrong with this. In fact, it would probably be a good thing. However, to avoid confusion, I would include a cover letter that states what additional documents were enclosed and the reason for providing them.

You only send document to an RFE what they asked for. All your other documents are correct and complete or they would have mentioned it in an RFE.

1 - You don't need to sent your call logs at this point, they will be needed in the interview at the embassy as proof of ongoing relationship.

2 - Someone with a better knowledge can address this issue.

3 - They already have an up-to-date letter of intent from petitioner, no need to send another one. You will bring another updated one both from the petitioner and beneficiary to the interview. Letter of intent only states that you are legally allowed to and willing to marry your fiance not your meetings. Or do you mean the I-129F question where they ask how did you meet?

I would definitely include the extra paperwork, and you will most likely be receiving an RFE on those as well. Be sure to include your case number with an explanation on each submission.

An RFE is a golden opportunity to add material to the petition file. USCIS won't care about extra evidence of a bona fide relationship but will pass it on to the consulate. It's always good to have existing material for the consul to read ahead of time (vs. bringing it all to the interview).

OP, of course supply the RFE requirement; cover the additional material with a sheet in big handwriting that says "ADDITIONAL MATERIAL -- PLEASE ADD TO PETITION FILE" or similar.

DaNnE - with my RFE, we were asked for further primary evidence, and gave us a list of about 6 examples. I included about 3 from their list, and then 2 additional items (probably considered secondary evidence). I don't see what the issue with providing more is. I hardly think providing more evidence will jeopardise you. I don't see them saying, oh sorry, you have provided to much so we don't believe you! But I am not an expert...

However just wanted to tell you that I gave more than it said and I feel ok about it!

I keep reading these threads where people suggest adding a lot of extra evidence and documentation

Isn't it a fairly simple matter to only include what is actually asked for? Do we know for a fact that there are benefits to including additional information? I would recommend following every requirement to the letter, no more, no less.

In countries with difficult consulates (which London and Manila are not), front-loading the petition file -- or mid-loading, in the case of supplementing the file at the time of an RFE -- has been quite helpful.
