US Embassy in Montreal - How long did your K1 interview take?

Hello everyone,

I do not have a car, so am travelling from Montreal to Toronto by bus. My appointment is at 7:40am and was just wondering how long it took you guys to get in and out so I know for what time to book my return ticket. There are return times for 11:30 and 1:30. Would I be safe to choose one of those? I'd rather not spend a long time waiting for the bus.

Each location is different and each day is different. I would look at the 130 one but be advised that you could miss that one depending on the load that day. Have enough cash or cards to get a room if you are delayed.

My fiance had his at 7:40 and was done by 9:20am. That's also what most people say their experience was. He was first in line though, as most of the people who had about an hour and a halfish of interview.

He came via train, stayed the night, his train left at 11am, he had time to spare between the interview and the train.

Just remember, that even though your appointment is at 7:40 am, a lot of other people have the same appointment times. Also, make sure that you go to the embassy very early, as they start lining up outside prior to the building opening. The longest part of our time spent there was waiting for our name to be called. The interview itself didn't really take long, I'd say about 20 minutes or so. I'd pick the latest bus, to be on the safe side, but that's me, give yourself time to go grab some lunch before the long trip back to Toronto.

My fiance got to the embassy at about 7am-7:10am and was the first in line.

There will be double doors at the enterance, you'll want to stand at the LEFT door with your BACK facing a yellow pole on the ground that's near a garage entrance I think. If you're by the right door you'll be sent to the back of the line when the line is being made. If you're FIRST you'll be out by 9, a lot of VJ users know EXACTLY where to go to be first, so that's why a lot of them are done by 9! <3

I agree with the other Canadian posters. Arrive early so you are at the front of the line. Follow all of the guidance in the Canadian embassy review on VJ. You should be out at 9 or shortly after.

I agree too. be sure to be very early there.

I was in front of the door at 6:25 am and I found couple before me, then soon after we were more than 20 persons., I was the first I got number #1, so between waiting for elevator, documents checking + interview all took an hour and 20mn, from 7:45 to 9:00 am.

note: be sure to line up on the side where the yellow bares are, and the garage door.

I suggest you to take the latest bus. and prepare yourself to spend the night at montreal. you don't know what can happen.

Thank you so much everyone, I really appreciate it! I will be sure to show up really early. I think I will book the 1:30 pm bus, but if worse comes to worst, there is a 3:30 bus as well I might be able to hop on if need be.

I was first in line right around 6am the day of my interview LOL. I needed to make sure I was first. I was out just after 9am. It went very quickly once I was allowed inside.

That said, I really recommend staying a little longer and hoof it around Montreal for the day of you can. It's a great city with so much to do and eat. We had a full 3 days there and we didn't get to see all the things we wanted to!

Yep, get there early and line up in right place and you should be done fairly early, but prepare in case you're not. Definitely read the reviews by fellow VJ members. And I'm not sure if you know this, but since you're travelling and not getting a hotel it's very important to make sure you don't have any large bags or backpacks with you when you go to the consulate. If you have anything more than a binder/folder with your documents in it you will be turned away. If need be, you can check small belongings in like cellphone, keys, etc. and they will give you a ticket to collect them on your way out of the consulate but large bags are not accepted.

I got there at about 7-7:10 on a Friday morning and there were about 12-15 people in front of me. I was out by 9:00. You should almost certainly be fine with the 1:30 bus. Definitely would have recommended against the 11:30 as you really never know. Good luck!
