POE Detroit

Since I'm going to travel alone to the States....is there anything I should know in advance? Especially about transitting in Detroit? Thanks!!

My wife and step-son had no troubles arriving in Detroit. I met them outside the baggage claim.

International flights arrive in the McNamara terminal.

Paul went through Detroit each time - as a visitor and on his visa. It was a piece of cake each time. The most confusing part will be when you get your bags. They LOVE to put them on two conveyers so you have to stand between them watching them like a ping pong match

Immigration though is very simple and friendly...and don't let the big bald guy yelling "AMERICANS HERE....VISITORS HERE" scare you. That men must never rest, he's ALWAYS there!

Congrats on finally being able to stand there watching those smoky doors slide open and spit you out!

Not enough people ask this question. I posted advice on POE in the consulate forum and it quickly went to the end of the list.

Yes there are very important things to watch at the POE that bite many people down the road.

First:

Check your I 94 carefully. It is your lifeline to the rest of this process. Make sure the dates are correct and the visa type. It is such a cheesy little form that a lot of people throw it away thinking it is nothing.

Next:

Make sure that you leave with a copy of your DS 3025 shot record. It should be given to you from the " do not open " package.

Greetings!

1. Please fill the I- 94 completely while on the plane to avoid unnecessary hassle! ( forms are distributed onboard ).

2. Queue in the right lane.

- Surrender the packet.

- Show your passport.

- Give your I-94.

3. MAke sure that you get back your passport and perhaps inspect if the other half of I-94 is attached.

4. Get your baggage.

5. May be ask to open or not.

6. Exit.

p.s. i wasnt told to open my baggage and went straight to the elevator that took me to the lobby where my hubby is waiting next to the parking lot.

thank you, griffin. Except that instead of exit-ing, i will have to go for my connecting flight to Norfolk.....it's gonna be a long journey...
