Hi there,

I am in desperate need of help. I am currently working in Seoul as an english teacher and have worked there since August, to now, that's 3 months, so I made about 2,800,000 won/month , which in dollars is $2500/month, so thats $7500 (3*2500) for three months before tax, not after tax.

on I-864 It asks for my current income. I read that this should be "reasonable expected income", so should I write down $30,000 (12* 2.500)?

or not? because Also, I am planning to move to the US with my korean wife, planning around February 2016, so my job would terminate, and therefore, it would only be $17,500 (7months * $2500), right? 7months from Aug 2015 to Feb 2015.

So which one should I write, $30,000 or $17,500? I think I would run into problems if I write $30,000.

My minimum poverty guideline level is $19,912, so if I write down $17, 500, then the difference is $2412 (19912-17500) of which I need to substantiate 3x in assets, as I am a US citizen, which means I need to prove $7,236 in cash and cash equivalent, of which I do have (but not all these assets have been in my bank account for the last 12 months, some are inflows from some online sales)

So I am really worried about this as my situation feels as though it is really complicated, living in Korea and moving to the US, to live in San Francisco just the two of us under one roof.

Also I read I have to present pay stubs from my employer, but my employer can't know I am planning to leave in February, so I can't ask her for that. I am really in a pickle I think.

I can't find any joint sponsors also, I have tried and no one in my family is willing to be one because they are all afraid of the liability which it entails.

Please offer some help and suggestions..

Thank you

hi

for tax purposes, the current year ends in December, and you won't be working so you will need a joint sponsor because you won't be employed when you arrive to the us, unless you leave now

how is she going to enter the US? what will happen if she cannot enter,

you come first, get a job and file for her

Sorry, I probably should have said that we submittles i-130 and have to put together packet 3. We have yet to schedule our interview with USCIS in Seoul (which is the US embassy in Seoul, 3rd floor.)

We were planning to schedule our interview for December 2014. Which would give us 6months from the time of getting her health check(sometime in December), and leave in February. We would live on our assets until we'd find a job in California while in the US.

Is it hard to get a job in the US when you are currently working in Korea? I think it is, but haven't tried yet, so that's why we planned to just land in the US, rent an apartment, and live on our assets while looking for a job before the three month mark.

Since we'd be interviewing in Dec 2014. I have to put current assets until December 2015?

also, if I find a job in the US while in Korea, will that satisfy I-864? even though I have not much history of income?

Without a current and ongoing income you will need to prove assets that are valued at 3 times the required income amount (3x $19,912) in order to satisfy the affidavit of support. If that isn't possible then obtaining a joint sponsor would be necessary.

See the form I-864 instructions for what can be used as an asset and how to determine the value.

Hello and thanks for the help

I read on this post this couple used their foreign earned income to prove their current income requirement.

The post says the follows:

"My wife(US citizen) and me have been teaching English in South Korea. we did DCF through the US embassy in Seoul.

With the I-864 my wife filled in the I-864 as the main sponsor, and used her Korean income and we submitted her tax return. She was well over the poverty limit. We also had my mom in law as a joint sponsor, who was also well over the poverty limit.

On my interview date, the consular officer was happy with my wife's foreign income, as we were both still employed during my interview time, so my wife's I-864 was approved. He took copies of her drivers licence, bank account as proof of domicile. That was it. He handed back the joint sponsor's I-864 and said it wasn't needed.

We entered the US on Thursday in Hawaii, and we breezed through, :-) "

I am also in South Korea, and have the exact situation as this person, but we have no joint sponsors which are willing to help.

Do you think this is a fake post or they got lucky,. or some other reason?
