Embassy page clarification regarding fiance / spouse interview attendance?

On the Embassy pages, What does the 'fiance /spouse attend interview' mean, allowed to be present or participate?

I noticed the VN page said no, but definitely currently people are encouraged and allowed to 'attend' but not participate.

It depends on a lot of things. One would be how many people are going in at the time of your appointment, another is just who happens to be working that day.

My wife was NOT allowed to come into the consulate with me and they claimed it was due to "The number of applicants with interviews and that she would be taking up a seat for an applicant." but they allowed others in, some children, some parents and even friends....

I would assume it will be a no.

Besides it did make my interview take less time, as those who had spouses/family members with them seemed to take longer than those who went in alone.

But you never know, just go up with you spouse and see what happens, just be more so prepared for them to say no.

No. I literally mean what is the value on the individual Embassy pages intended to mean, not what your experience was. Some embassies dont let people come period. Not well it depends. I dont think anyone can 'participate' so its a ####### shoot going regardless regarding effectiveness and if they turn you away than it is what it is. For instance Dominican Replican practically asks for it to be mandatory without being able to. The official site encourages it strongly.

Absolutely be on the consular premises during the interview. If you're not allowed inside at all -- and even if you are -- give your U.S. passport to your fiancee to shove under the window to the consul as a first action. The drawbacks are nil and the potential benefits are many.

Interpret the statement literally unless there's conflicting evidence.

At least they say something definitive.

During my day, the [censored] Guayaquil consulate's policy was "We won't breathe a word about it, but your U.S. Citizen hindquarters are expected to be at the first interview, and if they aren't, we'll order your hindquarters down for a Stokes!"
