1. Coupons (paper or on-line). Mrs. T-B. doubts that anyone in Ecuador would fully grasp the concept. Here, she and I view them as "free money." However, one has to be careful to note when a store-label equivalent is still cheaper than the national-brand-with-coupon.

Ya VN with stores / shops not really fixed prices as such and stores I think would be less prone to price mistakes there. There is still a lot of open bartering too....so I imagine concepts like coupons and pricematches and return policy are a pretty significant difference.

It was a pretty lengthy conversation I had trying to translate w/ my cousin how I could just return the camcorder I got for my trip.

My husband is from Canada and he goes nuts about the food; the variety and the low cost compared to Canada.

"Like why do we literally have like 15 flavors of Oreos here in the US? And why can we buy them at 3 packs/$5 sometimes!?"

We live in NY, so he gets even more excited when we travel to NJ and PA where stuff is even cheaper.

funny, alot of my workmates are from canada, they go nuts when we get a lunch special at a place and they can eat a good steak for like $10 , especially when they come to my area in the south to work

Mrs. T-B. was initially startled at the low prices for "luxuries." In Ecu, staples and basic items are very cheap -- she cooked a full meal for 5 people for $21 worth of components, and I paid $42 to buy full lunches for 11 adults & one child. However, a 32" flat-screen television was something like $1,500, and few regular people can afford both a washing machine and a dryer. Even women's clothing is sky-high, starting at something like $30 for a blouse that we can get for far cheaper at discount stores here. It doesn't help that Ecu's near-dictator has put massive import taxes on just about everything.

I'm curious to what my fiances take on would be? ....... CARPET and PAPER.

In several travels, paper was very minimalistic there. very little napkins if any, very thin. 1/2 sized very thin ply toilet paper and bidets there.

Here people take wads and wads of napkins like they are eating BBQ w/ their hands anywhere they go or in the rest room like they just swam in the beach when they barely rinsed their hands. At work from an auto feed towel machine, people take full body swipes like they are swinging the wheel on the Price is Right.

I never saw a strip of Carpet anywhere over there (i realize its hot and dusty there but its pretty interesting). I feel bad for all the babies who have to learn how to walk on hard $%^ floors!
