Hi VJers! Just wanted to share with you guys my experience in SLEC. Here goes:

DAY 1

1. Didn't line up in the morning because I think that I am just making it harder for myself to line up super early especially coming from a trip. It was a Wednesday and traffic was mild. Was there 9:00 AM. Presented documents to the guard. List as follows:

  • Passport and Passport Bio Page Copy (should be in portrait not landscape,2 copies)
  • Appointment Confirmation Email (2 copies)
  • USEM Appointment Letter (1 copy)
  • 2x2 ID Pictures with name at the back (4 pieces)

2. Registration at the USA Registration Counter (Ground Floor)

3. Pay fees at the cashier

4. Laboratory - blood only

5. XRay

6. Vital Signs then Eye, Height and Weight checking

7. Physical Exam

8. Immunization Interview

TOTAL APPROXIMATE TIME CONSUMED: 7 hours

DAY 2

1. Present receipt to the guard. In my case, I didn't submit my xerox copy of my immunization record the first day, so had to give it back.

2. Immunization Room

3. Counter A again, just have to give them my passport.

4. Releasing

TOTAL APPROXIMATE TIME CONSUMED: 10 hours

Tips:

  • Talk to people. Makes the waiting easier and you could pull up lots of information from them.
  • Be kind to the people who are selling stuff outside. They know a lot about the processes inside.
  • Found out from the guard that they finish EVERYONE on the same day (except for the immunization part, that's really day 2). So, don't panic if you're still not being called. Be patient.
  • Releasing is the most time consuming part.

Let me know if you have any questions :)

I was there on wednesday and finished at 10am! The second day was time consuming and boring, all i did was waiting for my name to be called. I cant believed i stayed there longer on the second day and went home around 1pm but thinking i passed the medical exam was worthy though.

If you are confident with your present medical state, that should be fine. But, I reckon, tiring. Not to mention, the immunizations they will give have side effects such as headache, nausea, fever and LBM for some (I hope none in your case, but as for me, I had all of those. boo!). As long as your medical is ok and your body can handle that, you're good. Best of luck!

Official word from USEM on medical scheduling:

Applicants are advised to have their medical examinations done 5-7 working days prior their interview appointment at the U.S. Embassy in Manila; failure to complete the exam within the prescribed time frame may result in significant visa processing delays.

Can you do what you're asking? The answer is yes, if EVERYTHING is perfect as in your health. If something is a miss with your health and requires additional testing then the answer is no. So you have to ask yourself, am I feeling lucky!

Instead of interview appointment letter, you can also bring a copy of MNL case number from the CEAC web site which I did.

St. Luke's doesn't want "the letter" from USEM, they want a copy of the interview confirmation letter/email/webpage printout, OR the NVC letter OR a screen print from CEAC with your MNL#.

Hi. Im wondering if they will allow mother to have somebody with her because she could hardly walk due to Gout arthritis but other than that, no any problems with the lungs or tb issues.

Thank you for your response.

At the end of day 1 you get a receipt which states "Immunization"

or "Sputum Collection" which would be a 2-month long delay?

Sputum Collection

Would this mean your positive for TB? What about inactive TB?

So then your would have to cancel your interview and reschedule?

Thanks!

Sputum Collection

Would this mean your positive for TB? What about inactive TB? If the sputum test comes back as positive then they have TB and the prescribed regiment at SLEC is followed. I not sure about a person with latent TB infection but since it has a chance to grow into full blown TB, I would think they would be treated. Just my opinion.

So then your would have to cancel your interview and reschedule? Once you find out that the person has TB and will go under treatment then you contact USEM to put yourself "on hold" till completion of the treatment. Sometimes SLEC will contact but don't leave this to chance.

Thanks!
