Applying SSN, SAVE verification time?

I just received my EAD and would like to head to SSA to apply for a SSN but i know that MOST people that go and apply the SS-5 form right away are subject to manual verification which causes weeks of delay.

I want to give them some time to update the SAVE database so i can be instantly verified on the spot and they won't have to file a G-485 for my case and wait for that turnaround.

my question is: how long does SAVE need to update my new status before i go into SSA?

The Social Security Administration advises waiting 10 days after arrival or a change in immigration status before attempting to apply. Hopefully, this gives whatever Department of Homeland Security system they use to verify the information to be updated.

When my in-laws came to the US in December 2014 they checked yes to getting a SSN on their visa applications. Well we waited. My wife was impatient for them to get a SSN since they needed the number to enroll in health care under the Affordable Care Act. So after calling USCIS to see if they could provide any assistance, they refer us to SAVE. SAVE said they don't talk to members of the general public and advise them to go to Social Security who will put in an inquiry. The next day, which was 11 days after arrival, I took them to a local SSA office. All they needed was their passports, immigrant visa with the endorsement stamp, and the SS-5. Basically it was no questions asked. I asked the clerk if they do the SAVE check there and he said yes. Since we live in Maryland, their cards arrived in the mail 4 days later, even though the office was saying anywhere between 2 to 4 weeks (depending on who you asked).

I have to say applying for a number for a newborn during the birth registration process is a lot easier then for a immigrant through the immigration process. When we had a baby, we checked off on the birth certificate application to have the birth registration information shared with SSA to create a number for our newborn. Two weeks later we received the newborn's Social Security Card in the mail. In fact it came before the state sent us notification the birth was registered.

Did you guys check on the SAVE system online? if so, did they come up?

SAVE CaseCheck wasn't around (or at least we didn't know about it) when my in-laws got their SSN in January 2015.

Hi, This is how it went for me (H1B, first entry)

 

I got my i-94 on 22nd and then i kept checking the SAVE case check online for several days but couldn't find my details.

I visited SSA office on 30th (9th calendar day) with SS-5 form to check if they have my info. They had my info in SAVE even when it was not showing online to me

I've been informed that I should get the card in a week or two.

I will post if it gets delayed
